December Christmas Social
The second Thursday in December can only mean the Local History Society’s annual Christmas social. The Last meeting of the year. An evening in two parts. First an hour of festive entertainment followed by a chance to socialise over a sumptious buffet supplied by the members. So on a cold Thursday December evening the Members arrived bearing platters of food until the table was groaning under the array of dishes,
But first- we were introduced to the evenings entertainment. The Westwood
Musical Society. They assembled on the St. Mark’s hall stage, in full Dickensian dress for an evening of traditional Christmas carols and songs. This commenced with the society’s Chairman giving us a short history of the Society.
The Westwood Musical Society began 87 years ago, back in 1930, with workers from the Baker Perkins Westwood works getting together and producing amateur dramatic and musical performances. From that year the have delighted the people of Peterborough with their musical theatrical performances. A full History with photographs of many performances are on their web site. https://www.westwoodworks.net/sportsandpastimes/wwms/index.htm.
For more than an hour the hall reverberated with a joyful program of rousing traditional Christmas carols ending with several well known and well loved Christmas songs ending with a stirring finale of ‘We Wish you a Merry Christmas.
Entertainment over, Tea or coffee was served with the buffet. A lovely end to the years meetings and looking forward to next years program of meetings and events.
Wishing you all Seasonal Greetings and a Happy New Year.
